When i had the hard fishing boat I never bothered with the ring part just clipped the buoy on to the anchor line with the clip it's ok & works as long as the rope or the chain or shackles will run through it free ,
majority of the time theres no problem but if you have any passengers or crew onboard warn them & get them to hold on whilst recovering the anchor especially if the seas a bit lumpy
if the anchor doesn't break out or it gets caught up or fouled in a wreck it can cause a snatch or sudden lurch on the anchor line .
