Is this searider modification any good..

Go to boats and outboards - Advert OBL248

then have a look at picture 4 of the searider

At the stern are two small hull extenders that look like tanks..
Is this anyone's one here and does it make an actual difference?
Has anyone tried it? I know in theory it would increase the waterline length but does it work..

Mmmmmm.

Interesting, and very well done by the look of it.
I'm assuming it's been done to add bouyancy to the stern and help it get up on the plane.

What we need is Cookee, or Adam Y, Biff etc to come along and have an opinion.

Nasher.

RIBase
I wonder if they are water tanks to make it create a bigger wake-is that a ski/wakeboard attachment on the outboard?

Engine..

The extra bit on the engine are the lifting handles the MOD fit to get them on and off their gemini boats..

Am I right in saying that's only a 40 on there?

I would question how those boxes would take a stern first landing off some big waves.

Ian

Silly me it's only a 4.1 not a 5.4

the owner may be hungering for a longer boat, i've seen it before but i dont know if it may affect stability at speed

tubes look like they're in pretty good nick.

another modification - in other photos the bow canvas/'bonnet'/whatever it's supposed to be called looks rigid and has a cleat on it. Has anyone seen this before? Looks like quite a neat idea if it's practical. I'm not sure I'd trust the cleat though; it must be ultimately attatched to the tubes via glue with no solid connection to the hull.

as to the boxes, wouldn't they give two seperate planing surfaces, one on either side? would that make it a bit more stable in flat water but a pig in waves?

If the engine is off a military zodiac, why is it longshaft?

Longshaft..

A lot of people fitted the shaft extension kit to the old Mariner 40hp. Relatively cheap process and as the RNLI & RN had lots of engines for sale was a good move.
