IPad Navionics chart advice required!

After much deliberation I have bought a used IPad to use as a chartplotter* now want to buy the Navionics charts so looking at the options there is a UK and Holland for £21.99 and Europe for £17.99.

Any idea which is best for Irish Sea?

Cheers

TK

*(will always be with my friend who has an actual chartplotter on his boat so sort of a backup and not sure if keeping the boat so thought at least this would be useful for something else post boat phase! Also will be easy enough to move on if the saltwater does not kill it! Will stick it in an overboard case and see how I go!)

Think you'll need the more expensive uk and holland one. Europe version seems to have forgotten all about the uk!

Yes, UK and Holland. I've been using it this afternoon with a Day Skipper course in the Sound of Mull. "I Sailor" and "Plan2Nav" are pretty good too, and both cheaper than Navionics if cost is a big consideration. All run well on the iPad. I have Imray loaded too, but don't use them much

Cool, just noticed there is an iPhone version for £21.99 but the IPad version is £44, do you have to buy the Ipad version?

Using the europe one in the netherlands and I have no complaints about it, however Icannot judge how detailed / well this one is in the uk . The ipad version does not work on my iphone and vice versa.

The Iphone version will work on the Ipad but the resolution is very disappointing indeed so don't try and save the money. Lots of details including tide times you can set the date for - download the area you need from a wireless connection and it's on the Ipad forever which means you don't need a connection to the internet to view everything. It also does currents and local pilot info - very useful!

When Cookee says "forever" he means "forever between updates to the app" - I've downloaded the charts three times so far - so it's worth checking that everything is still there if you have automatic updates enabled !

Do you have to pay every time or does it stay on iTunes as an App?

It stays on iTunes, so each update is free.

I think that it's a fantastic app too!
