Hydraulic steering - worth it?

Hey guys, hope none of you are out in this endless easterly that is hitting us at the moment... or if you are, I hope you’re well wrapped up!

Thinking of taking the plunge and upgrading my boat to hydraulic steering - mainly so it’s easier for the kiddies to steer... honest...

18’ boat with 115 evinrude

Is it worth the expense? The kits look to be about £600 although I’m following the other thread about European import tax if you buy cheaper from Europe so I’ll explore that option also.

I’m pretty handy and imagine running the hoses would be the worst part, happy for any opinions/advice!

+1 fitted hydraulic steering to my SR4 with a honda 50, maybe a tad overkill but worth every penny after a long day out, easy enough to fit

rod (metal) steering is going to rust/seize .... eventually (if used in salt water)

it doesn't usually seize during a trip .... but it might break! (been there, done that)

so factor in that inconvenience/expense in your decision. double the rod- push/pull cost for more equitable comparison.

just my opinion - experience.
