Best way to turn over a rib in workshop.

I am about to start work on the refurb on my Ocean 6.25, floor replacement, layout change and a respray following Nugent’s tried and tested format.

One thing I am concerned about is the best way to flip the boat over for access to the hull. The tubes are staying on, so I want to make sure whatever I do is not going to damage them or the join to the hull.

I have access to a telehandler with both long and short forks available, so lifting off the trailer and being able to get height to turn is ok after A frame and console removed.

. Some of the things I’ve been wondering

Tube inflated or deflated?
Lift in straps or protect hull and lift sideways to vertical and roll over?

I do have a rotisserie suitable for an old vw Type 2 and could fabricate a rear plate and some sort of front bracket, but not sure I would get the ground clearance to fully spin over.

I’d appreciate any tip or advice

One thing to bear in mind is that once turned over, the tubes will become a bit more susceptible to damage by having things dropped on them / stood on.

If you search for the word "flipping", you'll get a few responses

Thank you Nugent. My war department has horses, so straw and hay are things I can get hold of in vast quantities.

When I flipped mine (5.4m), I inflated the tubes to a nice hard pressure and rolled it off the trailer, my 16 year old son and I picked up one side and got it to the point of balance. It was quite heavy but manageable.

With my son holding it at balance I ran around the other side and took over holding it still while he joined me. We then lower it down slowly. I did tell him to stay out of its way if it went down on its own, but it didn't and it went fine.

I then lifted the transom and blocked it up on timber and then i climbed under it to lift and block up the bow to get the tubes off the grass. Then I let out some pressure from the tubes.

I worked on it for about 3 weeks and then reversed the above. It all went well.

Good luck with yours and don't pick a windy day.

Hope that helps a small bit.

Just seen you have a 6.25m I think you'll need three people, mine was on the limit for 2.
