Avon Hull Identification number

Hey all,

I'm looking in Belgium to buy my first rib.
I''ve found a potential candidate being a avon sea rider 470.
The actual owner claims the boat (and engine) is from 2001 but I doubt that.
He also has no CE-paper which I'll need if it is indeed from 2001.

Is there any way to tell the makeyear from the HIN?

Or could someone tell me what approx.year the engine is from by sight?

Thanks in advance for your responses

Hi Rudy,

you should be able to look at the HIN number and calculate the year, check here

http://www.nordicaboats.com/html/hin-numbers.html
http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.html

Patrick (also from belgium)

Thats indeed the kind of info I was looking for, thanks Patrick

As the four last digits are H091 this mean it should be a 1991 model build in August 2000. So a CE-document is needed to get a 'vlaggenbrief' as it is called here.
But the engine seems so old fashion to be from around 2000-2001.

The engine may look old fashioned but look how small and neat it is - a 4 stroke 70hp would be far bigger and heavier!!!

It is a 2stroke with a reservoire for the 2stroke-oil under the hood.

The outside of the cilinders (3) are painted blueish and the paint peals off.
It remembers me an old (1985) 55hp yamaha engine I once had.
Same color and same pealing off. That's probably not the right criteria to judge the adge :-)

That engine's also circa '91 (well, the hood is anyway ) Yam 70 is a good engine, but it's getting on a bit, so would be worth checking it over if you fancy buying it. Searider 4.7 is a good boat too - a mate of mine had one with a Yam 90 - 'twas a quick little thing

Rudy,

be very carefull with the CE papers. I got major trouble with our boat. (think major pain and weeks of trouble)

The mobility service (next to BIVV) wants those papers in 3 languages (yep... Dutch, Frensch and German) and the HIN number needs to be on there. (but it won't be mentioned on the vlaggebrief).

I will never buy a boat anymore where these papers are not exactly like needed or where the importer is not involved.

I'd take no risk.

Patrick

mystery is solved.
The boat stayed in a shop from 1991 till 2001 and the first owner bought it in 2001 as a kind of demoboat.

Now I have much reading to do because I'll be soon owner of a searider 470 :-)
Thanks for the helpfull answers.

A nice little Christmas present. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun on it. A fantastic boat
