durajet rescue pro pump jets

Hello,

New member here and interested in obtaining information on the performance of a durajet or rescue pro or any of these type pump jets. How do they perform in floating weeds like hydrilla or milfoil and lily pads or swamp environs. Have bought a 18 foot jon boat and considering my motor options. It is a 1849 (18 foot long with a 49 inch bottom) and weighs about 500 pounds. Love to hear from you and thanks.

I had a few durajets on 70hp Johnson 3cyl 2 stroke outboards. Theyre great for what they are designed for--people in the water. I loved them but they did use more fuel and had a significantly lower top speed. 20% lower top speed maybe. These were used units, so I have no idea what the impeller clearances were, I just ran them. I changed out to standard prop lower units and the boat got better fuel mileage and definitely a higher top speed.

I wouldn't run a durajet or a standard jet(like a hamilton) in any weedy type of water. Regular jets would get clogged quickly. Durajets are good to guard against prop strikes for divers and big debris like logs. Maybe lilly pads are fine but I wouldn't want to be near stringy grassy stuff.

I've had too many times I had to get under the boat to clear blockages from a jet. One good patch of floating stringy grassy stuff and you could be disabled. I don't know how much better a durajet would do in really weedy water. It's worth a try but be prepared to cut out weeds from the impeller housing. Bring long needlenose pliers and some long knives etc to get up in there. Let us know how it goes!
