Video guide on a transom riser I made to raise the engine 60mm

Hi everyone. Here's a video/picture explanation I did of my transom riser build I did for my 15" transom sib to accommodate the strange 18" shaft on my tohatsu 9.8hp 4st from 2005. Might be of use to others who need ideas to build up there's too. 👍

Very similar job to mine a few years back albeit I only needed to go up 45mm. Posts #69-78 on the thread below. My belt and braces is to always bolt the OB to the transom. The riser mod has been on 4yrs now and well tested in choppy conditions with no sign of loosening.

Hi Danny and welcome to the forum. Don't know why I missed your first post back in March 21.

Neat job

I was going to suggest the same as Fenlander, but on closer inspection, there doesn't seem to be any bolt holes on your outboard yoke.

I would be tempted to extend the stainless steel strengthens down to the bottom bolt hole.

Cheers fellas. I couldn't find much for rising an engine in this sort of height difference (as most were lifted an inch or less so still within the original grip pads) so I kinda winged it thinking of 40kg wanting to rip the transom off on the outside when I'm mounting it and pulling the sib. So with such stresses I would deffo need the biggest washers for surface pressure area and the braces for rigidity.

Yeah I thought the exact same thing. What I'll do is install 2 other 3mm thick stainless steel repair plates on the (inside sib side) from the middle to bottom bolts. I won't need to add any on the motors side i don't think as that side is always being forced onto the transom itself from the motor hanging mounted and when pushing the sib under way.

Any particular reason you bought an OB with a long shaft instead of a short shaft?

It is a short/standard though that's the problem. It's 18" and falls within the category. A long shaft would really be 20" or longer. Perhaps mines a weird saildrive size. It looked the normal size when I bought it lol. The problem is most short shaft outboards aren't near 15" haha
