Hello from Devon

Hi
Just introducing myself to the forum as a newbie. Having read lots of the very informative posts provided already,I look forward to gaining a better knowledge of all things boating… and no doubt asking lots of questions…
Just had my new Elling delivered yesterday, so hopefully going to find some info on unpacking and pumping up process etc.

Thanks

Hi Gary S
Thanks for the welcome
I do have one question straight away
Is there a particular way/process/ order to inflate the Elling and I’m looking at putting a 9.8 2 stroke on it, are their any transom wheels in particular that i should be looking at ? preferably the easiest to flip up as possible The ground i will be wheeling over gravel to soft sand.

Thanks

Hi and welcome.

Good to inflate front to back to set the baffles in the correct orientation. Also good practice to inflate chambers in thirds or at least half pressure in order to not stress said baffles.

You did well to get hold of an Elling at the moment, and will go well with a lightweight 9.8 two stroke….ours certainly does.

Enjoy your new boat.

Have look at YT: there are a few videos on there but the one that shows the inflation assembly process is:

https://youtu.be/4qsg08eHAVo

Wheels: there are threads on here that talk about them at length. Mine are removable after launch rather than flip up. Mattster has fitted lift up Suprods I think with bigger diameter wheels.

Gravel and soft sand are always a good combination! I had a 9.8hp outboard which was great but foolishly let it go…long story for another day! Good luck finding one at a sensible price. Again, keep watching the ‘classifieds’.

Welcome to the Elling club!
A Yamaha 9.9 2 stroke on offer here https://f-ribsandsibs.com/forum/view...hp?f=15&t=5092 If its still available its been reduced to £1000 if you are actively looking.
Where did you manage to get a new Elling?

Oh forgot to add the 9.9 can if its not already been done be made to 15hp for free with just a few minutes work. They weigh the same as the 9.9 is really a detuned 15hp

Thanks for your replies guys, i’m not very computers literate so it’s going to take me a little time to work my way around the site.
Thanks Oldman2 for the link, I had a look but really req the portability of the tohatsu as i need to carry it down some awkward steps.
Cheers Gary, but like you say it’s a little too far from me….shame, will check out the wheels though
I think that I might go for a new 9.8 as I can put it through the business, and my partner is not confident in the sea so a new OB hopefully will allay her fear and the headed paperwork gets around the rules on purchasing, however is anyone aware of users of 2 Stroke being pulled up by the powers that be ( whoever they are )for using new OB on lessors craft. I’m assuming that they have more important things to focus on, or am I being naive ?

There's a brand new 9.8 listed on GumTree £1900(ish) for commercial users only. They may ship it as it is Wales. Not sure if the 'rules' as all very confusing! I do some safety boat work for a cadet unit but not sure if that counts!

I'm away to Cornwall tomorrow until the 17th so if you fancied a trip down...I'm in Gorran Haven.

Got the boat sent over from Magnus in Lithuania only took a few days, and postage only 72.00.

That’s about the same price i have been quoted plus delivery.
I can understand the rules as they stand, i’m just unsure wether ‘ they ‘ enforce them, I haven’t heard of anyone getting pulled to task
The only other option is a 6hp but that feels too small.
I used to go to Gorman Haven with my folks, it’s lovely down there, unfortunately i’m back to work tomorrow 😕

I use both 6hp and 9.8hp four strokes depending on where I am, tides and what I’m doing. One up the 6hp works very well. Two up plus fishing kit will just about get onto plane subject to weather.

Although I’ll be mostly solo, I’m taking to 9.8 to Gorran as weather looking ‘interesting’: good to have some in reserve. Plus I’ve got a sand morning so not moving it far.

If I can work out the GoPro I’ll try and post some pics/videos when I get back!

I have business in Plymouth so be good to meet up at some point during the summer.

They are Zodiac wheel set Z61161 at c.£180. They came with the boat when I acquired from Fenlander, a member on this forum and a top man.
