Costco tobin sport

Hi all

Feeling quite smug managed to buy the costco 3.3 for 389 quid online, had to pay the costco joining fee bringing it to 404 pounds delivery included. I have been looking at the these for ages to use whist on my own and chucking in the car. I have a 15hp 2 stroke I intend to use on it, my question is does anyone have any experience with them ? . Any pitfalls ? And what transom wheels are you using.

Regards

Matt

Search Youtube for Costco boat/inflatable or Tobin inflatable and there are a number of videos. As I have read about them they work but get sketchy at higher speeds, and they are made from fairly thin plastics. If I wanted a small boat I would buy one in a heartbeat as Costco has such a great return policy and leaks can be patched.

How the F did you manage that?!

(Coming from someone who just paid £570 for one this week)

I bought mine as my first boat, but not aiming for any serious cruising or such like, but sitting 50-200m off land and coast fishing, and also exploring Scottish lochs.

Been looking at them for ages and joined a group on facebook. Most of them are in America and one guy posted they was being marked down so I thought I would check the uk site out

Nice one Matt.

No experience of them whatsoever, but from what I have read, I think you may find a 15hp is probably too much. The other thing I've read is, with the pressure in the airdeck being relatively low (think 5 or 6psi) that it has to be spot on otherwise you get a lot of flex and a build up of air under the "hull".

Bloody typical. Trust me to buy a boat one week before the price drops by £200.

I’m looking to put a 6hp on it, it seems that would be a good balance of power for it.

If you've not unpacked it, it may be worth a return trip to Costco. You never know, they may just look upon you kindly.

If purchased at Costco a simple phone call grants a refund...at least in the USA.
