" Flat blown up in air bed accident "

Another Britishism that puzzles us North Americans. We can see why they are called 'flats' after they get blown up, but why before?

On a similar vein, here's some Americanisms can confuses us Brits...

What the hell's a Condo?

Flat...house without a roof. It's therefore 'flat'
Detached House...a house not connected to the ones either side of it
Semi-detached house...think about it
Farmhouse...think about it

Condo???
Apartment???
Homestead???

And you think we're daft

Why do we call them apartments when they're all crammed together?
