6.2 vs 6.95 does size matter

Hi all, I have a question regarding the difference in boat size, and if its worth to spend much on extra length.

We use a zodiac pro man 15 for some years to our delight so far, but our work continues to move further offshore each year, hence we are thinking about an upgrade of the boat.

The new zodiac pro 7 / open 7 models look like serious contenders. Both models have the same width as our current boat, but offer up to 75cm more length (according to zodiac documentation).

Here are the dimensions

overall length inside hull dimensions

Pro man 15: 6.2 m 4.16 m
pro 7: 6.75 5.71
open 7: 6.95 5.71

I was wondering what your thoughts are on difference in performance between these boats, and if not better to step up in length beyond this small extra length, for instance the 750 model?

Size matters!

It's important WHERE it's bigger however. Is the extra length in the tubes or on the deck. 75cm of extra deck space is an entirely bigger and potentially better class of boat. You'd really need to see the two boats to understand the difference - technical plans of the deck might help. Having the same beam/width will mean it will be easy to push along but perhaps not get the gains in seakeeping you might see with a wider hull type.

Welcome to RIBnet by the way! MGO is a great username, IMO - here in Ireland we call our boat diesel "MGO" - Marked Gas Oil.

What do you call road diesel then?

In UK "gas oil" is red diesel and "derv" is white.

RIBase
Everyday is a school day. I always thought that MGO was Marine Gas Oil which according to Google it is but it is also Marked Gas Oil.

Magnesium Oxide, an ingredient in honey and a carabiner sold by Petzl as well.

Welcome to the forum.
