Will it tow...

Do we think this will tow this?

MG zs 1.8 120hp (ish) rated upto 1000kg braked

Fletcher 17 arrow streak (unsure of weight but should definitely be under a tonne)

I reckon it'll be fine on the road but would it pull it up a steep slipway?
I usually tow it with a 2.0d Zafira which seems to cope perfectly fine but that's the mothers car.

The mg is certainly faster being a petrol but not sure if it will have the weight to provide the grip to the tyres.

Has anyone had any other similar experiences with vehicles?
Is it worth risking putting towbar on the mg?

Yup...move it no probs.

Edit:

Your car, according to makers, is only good for 500kg unbraked. I dont see brakes on that trailer?

If that is the case I dont think moving it will be an issue, it is the legality of it as I doubt the whole thing is less than 750kg

The boat is anything from 520 to 650kg depending on where you read. Maybe look at plate or call fletcher for info?. Then it is plus trailer, engine, fuel yada yada.

If you have brakes then it should be fine. Hth

Cheers

Will take it to a weigh bridge and get it checked over. The guy I bought it off said it weighed just under the 750kg limit. He had a print out to show for it but will defiantly get it checked

Steep 'clean' slipway yes, slimy, greasy mass of seaweed - probably no. Could always ( in a safe manor ) use a rope to keep the vehicle out of any potential danger

Do have that problem with the zafira if wet so do use a rope every now and then.

Will get the boat weighed and see how much towbars are then!

Cheers!

it doesn't matter what it weights from a legal standpoint, your car will only tow 500kg unbraked, you will be miles over that.

it is ofcourse your choice if you go for it :-)

cheers

I saw a fiesta van tow a large sports boat (inboard merc) over a sandy beach and up a steep hill (Morfa Nefyn) it only used one clutch and 2 tyres to get to the top of the hill.... oh and a very long rope.......

But it worked........
