Tow bar fitters?

All

I've had a ring a round this morning and been quoted everything from £225 - £800 for a towbar to be fitted to a 2011 Astra Estate.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a local ish (Plymouth / Exeter / North Devon) tow bar fitter that is;
A - sensible on price
B - knows about the Astra electrics as one place reckons it's a two hour simple job, one says its 6 due to a new loom being required - and I haven't a clue

Ta muchly

Have a look on the towequipe website.

Lots of good info on electrics there.

Parts prices for all you'll need which will help in deciding if the "fitted" quotes are fair.

Fixed/removable/swan neck etc will have a huge bearing on price.

My brother's a vehicle mechanic and also fits towbars (can't imagine where he got the inspiration... ).

He's based in Pennymoor (a little west of Tiverton). I'll pass on his number if you need it.

All the best, Ben

Can help with that too ^^^ - I get a substantial discount from a uk based manufacturer of towbars, which I'm happy to pass on, if you're looking to fit one yourself.

PM me if you'd like a price.

I've used Tamer Trailer Centre in Plympton (Vally Road). Tim (MD) or Ian are very helpful and well priced.

I had a Witter bar fitted on an older 2004 407sw which cost £350 using the proper wiring loom plug rather than splicing in, which invalidates the car warranty

They are on 01752 341133 give them a ring.

The other place I know in Plymouth is "Plymouth Trailer Centre" on Richmond Walk, Stonehouse. Not used in a long while though.

Hope that helps

Ha. None taken fella but I'd like to say your wrong. They were T/T up until when they moved about 3 years back. Now they are TTC and have since rebranded again from blue to black....See

We can agree they are top chaps though!

Hang on a minute. The web address is trailer, the company name is trailer but the logo says towing. Now I'm confused and I'm in there every week.

Shall we call it a draw?

hahaha! The 'A' is what I was referring to, but yes, I'm more than happy to call it a draw Peter, especially as you blew me out of the water with your quick fire postings!

And yes, most definitely, top chaps!

Bloody iPad auto complete. Went rite ovar me head. It makes you look a right pillock sometimes.

I think you win on a technicality.

On a lighter note it changes Biff (Biffer on here) to Buff so you can imagine how I try to avoid conversations with him, especially when I'm tired like I am right now! I don't want to be seen calling Biff Buff do I :hides:

6 hours!!!! Complete bollux unless it's being done by a one armed blind man with a frontal labotamy.

I did a Zafira from scratch in less than 2 and I'm no mechanic/auto electrician. If you can wire a mains plug and push a relay into a socket then you have the skills to wire a towing relay for a Vauxhall.
Bumper has to come off and 2 holes drilled thru the valance, bolt it all up and bumper back on.
Easiest I ever did was the Nissan Terrano , brackets for towbar already fitted to chassis at factory. Hold up the towbar, insert 4 bolts and tighten up the nuts. Simple.

Doesn't matter if its Tamar Trailor Centre, Tamar Towing or Tamar anything - if they don't answer the phone I can't ask them for a price.

Plymouth Tow Bars turned up a good price but I live to far out and would need to go to them.

A 2 B are coming to me and at a good price compared to all teh others.

Thanks all

Don't know about the Astra electronics but some cars need the electronics enabling when you plug the wiring harness in to knock of reversing sensors etc.
