Mud Guard Attachment

A previous owner has secured the rear of the mudguard to the trailer by drilling and bolting through the box section.

This now blocks the lighting board extension arms when trying to slide them back into the box section.

Is there a simple solution for attaching the guard and leaving the box section open to accommodate the extension arms?

difficult to say, without a visual, but how about a u-bolt round the box section and through the inside face of the mudguard?
