Hurricane 733 from Jet to Outboard

Hi all. I got my hands on a 733 that is jet driven. Does anyone know If it can be changed to outboard since the transom is designed for the jet engine? Thanks a lot!

Yes it can. The existing transom whole needs to be glassed up and the. You need to add a bracket of some sort. Look on here for Ryan Pratt’s old posts. He converted several with fiberglass brackets. His were Willard boats but essentially the same thing. I converted mine and I used a zodiac aluminum bracket but they are virtually impossible to find.

Hi Jason! Thanks for the reply! I have watched your thread many times and very closely and I have to say that you have done a great job. Your boat was an Inboard. Mine is a Jet one. That means that there is also a second hole underneath, there where the Jet takes in the water. So the V shape of the hull is slightly flatened at the last 0.5 meters and I realy do not know if that can handle the weight of an outboard. I ll try to post some pictures.

Sounds like you have two holes to patch :-). And I need to brush up on jet drives. I wouldn’t imagine I would be an issue, the jet version would still have been made to go stupid fast but it’s outside my experience. I wouldn’t think the slight change in hull shape would make a difference. If you do a glass or aluminum bracket you can have it follow the shape. With fiberglass you could probably even reshape the hull to the vee if you wanted but I’m not sure it would be necessary. My current hard boat project has a similar flat section in the back on purpose.
