Transducer Port/Starboard

Instructions don't say either, elephant's trunk is starboard, plenty free space on port side.

Any reason people don't put the transducer on port side? I've used the search function on here but there's no definitive answer.

Hi Alan hope you’re ok. I had mine fitted by marine electronics firm and they fitted it just starboard side of cut away. Cheers B

I get the impression that starboard is the favoured side but no reasons for it.

I'm assuming it's "wash" off the prop that favours strbrd.

It’s to do with the turbulence caused by the prop. It’s lower on the Stbd side with a conventional rotation prop.

I figured that was the reason.

They will work fine either side, even directly in front of the engine. Just make sure there are no strakes to cause air or turbulent water as the water runs under the boat. Not sure why it keeps flipping it upside down when I post it on here!!

Most transducer cables are 30ft long but able to extend further in many cases.

Golly, I never thought too much about that.

I put mine as close to the middle as possible, about a foot forward of the transom - works great. May be more luck than judgement.

Stay positive - Test negative.
