Finally on the water - some shots

This was Oban at the weekend and after getting 'blown out' by a serious sea fret the week before in Teeside I was really pleased to be able to try out my new lowrance.
I am still not sure of the best settings etc and did get quite a lot of scatter - which I am nor sure whether this was due to the sea conditions (a lot of 'debris/ alage' in the water) ,,,, or simply my incompetence
I did find that the 800 Hz was really poor so not certain what I am doing wrong
Anyway - very pleased and definitely needed to try it out on wrecks I know before even hoping to find somnething different.

Advice from more experienced users would be much appreciated

Jeff

Breda, Hispania, Madam Alice and Anna Bhan

Really pleased but absolutely no use in expecting the manual to tell you how to use it. Perfect for us men-folk: just press a few buttons and pray

Thanks for the link Jeff prices are very good. Just have to see how much I can afford to spend at the end of this month. Mr Flibble this link from Jeff is £60 cheaper than Redcar.

Make sure you get the version pre-loaded with Navionics Silver+ charts, prices for the latest model can be found for under 500 pounds (ex vat) including the dual frequency broadband sonar transducer.

Lowrance

Channel Ribs is quite right.
Some are still without the preloaded silver charts - though the silver does not show any spot soundings below 10m and in my view not great. I did buy the Gold UK/Holland large chart which is excellent.
Having used Garmin for years I am totally surprised how much better the Navionics look. You also get 12 months of free updates of NM's etc by simply plugging your card into your PC, as well as PC plotter software.

My HDS5 was shipped direct from Holland and arrived with a software version higher that that shown on the global Lowarnce site.

When looking at prices, also be aware that their are two combos - one with a 200/83Hz skimmer transducer and one with a 200/50 Hz. The latter is more expensive for some reason though I actually chose the 200/87 specifically

There isnt a massive variation in price with any of the dealers in reality - pick who you feel comfortable (or live closer too ?)

Ok, I am about to invest in an HDS9-Touch with Structure Scan. Which transducer do you guys recommend going with to be fitted on a 7m RIB - thru hull or transom mount? If transom mount, where is the best place to mount it given I have twin outboards on the boat?

Well its finally here, been a wait but worth it

Newly fitted on Vixen, setting up so passenger/nav position can operate structure scan and helm drives boat. Will log all files to an SD card and see what this new Lowrance feature is on their website where you can upload a file and get a 3d map. Sounds just like Dr Depth via Lowrance but might be wrong.
