Garmin 188c Power lead

Hi,

Over the winter the power lead on my Garmin 188c (chartplotter & echo sounder) seems to have stopped working, i have tested the votage at the other end of the cable 12v, after the fuse 12v but at the top 0v. I have trimmed a good 2 foot of the power lead off (it was spare and cable tied up), to see if it had broken but nope made no difference.

Has anyone re terminated a garmin plug?

It looks a solid plug to try and cut into without damaging the connections and then reterminate.

Any ideas? Or a spare?

Cheers

Probably no help to you but I have a Garmin 182c. Several years ago it would randomly turn off. I traced this to the connector end of the cable, it wasn't a break, just the little bayonett nut not holding on to the back of the unit. I'm wondering if this has happened on yours and has damaged the pins inside?

it was working fine last year, with no issues.

How did you manage to solve your issue? Did you find a new cable, reterminate the cable end up buying a new unit?

Cheers

It just needed securing, so jammed it on the back of the Chartplotter and used Sikaflex to glue it in place. Has been fine since.

found a new genuine Garmin cable on ebay for £21 inc p&p tested it on land today and powered up.

Its all sorted, just a bit confused to why it would break when not being used or powered guess it must have been to do with the extreme cold we had.
