best plotter

hi guys,

Any advice on what plotter to get. I have an open Redbay 6.5.

Items of concern are
Readability
Size screen
Charts?
Water proofing
Built in fuel meter.
Built in sounder.
Built in arial or not.
Useability.
reliability.
Ruggedness.

As you can guess having bought a redbay i tend to likegood products that I will get the years out of. All advice welcome.

rgds

Peter

Hi Peter,

If the fuel meter is a priority then youre search will be pretty well limited to the Navman 5600/6600 (C Map NT+).
But you can always fit a seperate (stand alone)fuel flow system which would then widen your options in respect of plotters.
At this point in time I would recommend choosing a unit that can run the forthcoming C MAX charts (Standard Horizon CP175C/CP1000C) or Navionics Gold XL3 (Raymarine C Series).
If you are likely to be looking to add radar at some point then Raymarine might be best choice due to the "plug & play" functionality of their system.

I have a Navman 5600. I choose the software first, then the plotter to run it on. Excellent kit, great value. Only proviso might be water resistance - mine is in a cabin, so if you are seriously considering it I suggest you get some feedback from someone who has one in an open boat.

Good luck,

Mike
