Battery/starter cable size

Hi guts I'm trying to work out what size of cable I need for my starter/battery cables to order.

As my current ones have seen alot better days and especially as the insulation has melted off in one part due to a electric fire in the previous owners hands.

So I'm trying to find out how big I need gor my engine as I cannot find it anywhere.

It's a 99 mercury 135 v6 (non optimax).

I'm reckoning 35mm2 but just want to make sure before I go putting my hand in my pocket.

I dont know what cross sectional area you require however for someone to answer your question you will have to provide a lenght of run i.e. the distance between the battery and the engine/ starter

The brunswick factory issued a service bulletin a few years ago on this subject. Any merc/mar dealer can find it on their EPC and maybe let you read it , they are not supposed to print and give you a copy , unless its changed since I retired.

I've used 35mm2 for the 225 Opti and it's a 5m run. It's what the factory service manual recommended.

Yeah 35mm2 sounds good to me my run is in the region of 4.6m so Ill edge on the side of caution and go 35mm2

I've been to two mercury service centres and one just showed me there battery cable which they did not know how big it was and also was not tinned and the second just said they can make me a pair but would not tell me what size and or if it was tinned or not.
