Antenna base and cable

The base of my antenna is a moulded piece and the cable goes through a hole in the side. Is there anyway of getting at the cable connection to replace it with a new cable?

Have you tried cutting it back till you get clean wire then put a connector on?

So you've got 10cm left and the cable is clean? If it is you'll be able to fit an inline connector and use the same aerial.

You've read my mind young Phil as my next question is what to use as I've read a few times that joining antenna cable is a bad thing to do?

Is that a split line in Pic 2? If so, I guess undo the bolt that forms the swivel and you may find it falls apart. It doesn't look like an overmould - otherwise the wire would be fairly integral to the plastic case and you;d be utterly stuffed. If it's a weld line, take the pin out anyway - it may be that's what is holding the metal bit in.

As for the 10cm of decent cable - if the rest has corroded, that 10 cm will be sure to follow........

Probably 'coz it's rusted solid into the bit you need to remove.........

Wot you need is a bigger hammer!
