AM/FM aerial inside console?

I've been looking at aerials for the boat stereo. I don't really want a VHF/AM/FM splitter in there, so I'm considering mounting a 'rubber duck' type am/fm aerial inside the console.

Anyone know if it'll receive ok inside the GRP console? I want the end of the Archers and the shipping forecast to be nice and clear

The console won't alter the RX - it'll still be crap.

I have one of those on me 110, and they're brutal. A coat-hanger would be better.

Ahhh, ok...

Any better ideas would be appreciated.

(For some reason I read your post as though you owned a twin engined Messerschmitt fighter...)

I fitted one of the small amplified car radio aerials and it works great. It's the type that is a small black box with a flat ally strip about 8" long sticking out each end. Stuck in place with a self adhesive pad and wired into the radio and been working fine for three years now.

How about a Vitronix Rib Fader? Still in the console. Then you'd have a spare VHF antenna if you needed one?

Re. the Me110, Grandpops would be spinning if he heard that...

Well, I just grabbed one of the amplified aerials from Ebay-if it works, problem solved!

Didn't fancy splashing out for a Rib Raider. 50 quid is a bit much for something with such a bad reputation.

That'll be the replacement if/when the amplified thingy fails then.
