Vipermax, outboard and props.

I've found out my Evinrude DI 150 will come with a 21" SS prop. Osprey have suggested this might be over propped for the RIB and a 17 or 19 would be better.

Is there anyone that has a Vipermax 6m-ish with a 150 that could suggest what pitch of prop to install for general RIBbing?

We are running 18 pitch stainless on a 115 hp , 19 pitch or 21 pitch shouldnt be to far out.

I thought all the Evinrude 150hp Di's had gone bang how come youve got one?

This old chestnut. Sorry HT. I run a LaserII 21"P. Poisonally, I'd go for a QS Vengeance 21"P, but that's my personal preference.

I have 2 New 19" Johnson / Evinrude Props on the way over to me from the states.

You are welcome to try one out to see if its suitable.

I also have a really nice SS Quicksilver 18"

You crack me up Jono.

OK, I know that the ficht engine haven't got their fans but my belief is that all the early problems have been sorted and as the one I've bought was made during the crossover year to the Etec , I guessing it's OK and that you knew that anyway .

Still, I recon I bought it for a fair price considering the time of year. It's only got 30hrs on it and 15 months warranty left. I'd have had to spend over twice as much for a new 150 Etec and compared to the 2000, 150HPDI Yam I originally went to see with a little bit less and 450 hrs under the belt it seemed quite a bargain.

Does that mean if you rag the nuts off it until it goes bang you'll get a new E-tec under warranty?

Yeh I might be up for borrowing one of them when the boat is Sea ready Chris. I was just really wondering if the 21" was in the ball park, otherwise I was going to negotiate a different prop from Power Tech.

When I enquired on the same subject for my 150 Opti, there was mixed opinion about whether to go for a 19" or 21" pitch, so I bought one of each and will see which is better suited for general use. I expect I'll end up swapping them about, depending on use, loading, sea conditions, etc.

What is the gearbox ratio of your Ermintrude? The 150 Opti is 1.87:1

In that case, I'd be inclined to give it a run with that prop and see how you get on. Better to go looking for a new prop after you find the one supplied is not suited, rather than get a new one in advance of finding the original to be ok.

I bought 2 Andy cause I do find that props make excellent depth sounders. And lets face it they are £156 eac in the uk whereas the place I have bought them for in the US charges $109 ea. plus $80 to ship. They will put a low value on the shipping notes so I don't pay tax which means I am getting the props for about £80 ea.
