Value of 2009 Yamaha 150hp AETX

After having my 2009 Yamaha 150 AETX stolen off the back of my boat around a month ago, I am trying to negotiate with insurance company on the value of my engine.

I bought it brand new with the rib and it had only done around 230 hours, had been incredibly well looked after, washed and flushed after every use. It had a full service history by a Yamaha dealer and was in pristine condition with no marks, scratches or scuffs etc.

What is the consensus on the value on how much such an engine would cost should it be available from a reputable dealer?

Brainz,

I'd be calling every Yamaha dealer you can think of and ask them - they may have sold some recently and can give an opinion.
Do any have one of a similar age for sale?

Have a look on boatsandoutboards to see what similar is for sale.

ebay completed listings

Unfortunately the Threestokes guide is often a little pessimistic when it comes to values.

Who is the insurer?

Most will be reasonable as long as the stated value (and hence premium charged) covers the actual market value.

I can't find anyone with a similar engine for sale, which is of course the problem.

Insured with Towergate, who to be fair, are being excellent with the claim and have progressed it well. But I guess as always, there's going to be a difference of opinion with how much the engine is worth.

The stated value of the engine was easily enough to cover the market value.

I read somewhere (maybe on Rib-net) that as a guide an outboard depreciates 20% in the 1st year and the 10% for each year afterwards for the first few years. I guess once out of manufacturers warranty the depreciation would increase??
I'm insured with the same company as the OP and bought a brand new etec at the end of last season so would be interested in the outcome and peoples opinions on the depreciation.
Based on the above calc's a £12,500 new 150 outboard would be worth around £6,500 after 5years which is also when the warranty expires.
Is this reasonable?

If its going tp get a bit sticky with the insures an answer may be, OK if you do not agree with my valuation provide me with an engine of comparable hours and condition. This has worked for me in the past with claims. Regards Jim
