Tilt motor Mariner 40 1990

Hi Anyone know Mariner outboard engines?
I have a 1990 Mariner 40 Magnum 4 cyl which I believe is the same as the old Mercury 50hp.
The problem is the trim tilt motor. Can the trim motor be removed from the top of its housing while in situ?
There are 4 screws holding the top cover on which has 2 wires passing through it, green and blue, these pass down the side of the motor, there are 2 nuts on studs on top of the motor, so how do I get the motor out of the housing or do I have to remove the whole unit from the motor then strip the pump off the casting and then out of it’s housing.

Thanks in advance Regards David Jones

Firstly, Welcome to Ribnet!

Single or three ram? (I guess single as its 1990) I'm basing theae commnts on the one(s) I've connibalised to get a working PT for my 60.

The two screws on the top of the motor will allow you into the brush gear, and if there's enough headroom probably allow you to get the armature out.

To get the motor off the pump / chassis there are 4 screws round the bottom (below the header tank / filler spout) and the whole lot comes out as one. (But you'll probably need to drop the whole unit to get at the two round the back)

Ishop marine has a few Microfiches which will give a better picture of how it's put together.

There are three different motors for this engine. If you have the Engine number we could identify which you may need. To remove the motor, undo the 4 bolts around the base, you can then lift the motor and reserviour off the pump base. Call me on 01903 762610 if you need any more help.
Regards,
Aquatec.
