Synthetic oil, slick 50 and Yamaha?

Is synthetic oil okay to use in a Yamaha F80 4 stroke and has anyone used slick 50 (or similar additives) in an outboard.

I don't have a manual and would be grateful if someone could let me know what Yamaha suggest, or your experiences.

Many thanks,
Tim.

Don't touch slick50 or similar with a barge pole. I have seen inside engines that it has been used in and the gunk that builds up is horrible.

I don't see the point in synthetic oils either. They are good if you don't plan on regualr oil changes. I would rather a normal oil and change it a bit more often.

use the genuine Yamaha oil,
have done for years, and it certainly gives good piece of mind.
Never had a problem
never use any additives

If you search the internet you will find the Slick 50 parent company were found guilty in the US for mis advertising/desription on the box and had to set aside $26m to cover compensation.

Any good quality engine oil will do - do you use Honda oil in a Honda or Ford oil in a Ford???

RIBase
note if you use syntic oil once you are stuck with it. I understand that you cannot revert to ordinary oil if syn oil has been used in a engine.
