Powerful motor for small towing vessel

I've worked for a 3-4 years with outboard motors now as an operator but I know very little of how each motor actually stand up to each other as i've only ever worked with two models (Mercury 150hp optimax, Evinrude 175hp). I found the mercury would be sensible to long idle runs and haven't had that many problems with evinrudes.

I'm now looking to buy motor(s) for a small towing vessel (22' airsolid). Which is more reliable (looking at mercury, evinrude, yamaha, suzuki, honda)? Should I go twins? I'm thinking buying a bigger single engine and an emergency one might be a cheaper option.

I know its a big question so I'm not expecting too much but if any of you lads want to share your experience, I'd love to read!

Thanks
New Business Owner
