Oil system on Mariner 75 clamshell

I have an early 90's mariner 75hp with auto oil feed - I recall reading on the forum that it can be a good idea to disconnect such systems on older 2 strokes and use premix - would that make sense on this particular design? Thank you and seasons greetings!

Another solution is to put a weak (40% of normal)mix of oil in with the fuel that way if your oiler packs up your engine gets some lubrication

Personally, they either work or they dont. The crank runs the oil pump, i dont think from memory i have ever seen an oil pump fail on the 75 Clam shell. Some of the MoD engines are clocking up way over 8000 hours with no problems. I would leave it alone!

Thanks a lot guys - sorry for the late reply have been away over christmas - did manage to launch on new years day and decided to follow both your advice and run premix whilst checking if the oil level was dropping!

It does seem a solid engine - despite being stored clearly with fuel in the carbs started and ran - i found out later that 2 float valves were stuck open! hopefully get a carb kit soonest...
