New to me 1992 Yamaha 15

Collective folks, I picked up a few weeks ago, a 1992 Yamaha 15 2 stroke ... Ive got great compression on both cyliners 117 and 121 respectivly, she pumps water really well too.

Only issue is the lift is stiffer than a stiff thing from planet stiffness !! ... It rotates no problem, but trying to lift the engine from vertical to the "out of the water" setting is almost impossibe.

Im guessing its corrosion or a build up of "Gunk" .. I see grease nipples on the side to side, but nothing on the up and down !!.. pivot bar ?

Going to see if I can unscrew it, clean and re-seat.

Failing that, any sympathetic cheap grease monkeys (as opposed to main dealers) around Southampton that could take a look ?

You can probably loosen the nuts on either end if the tilt pin & work it up & down a few times with some release oil to free it off. Folk often tighten the nuts either end so the engine will stay at whatever position its tilted to so it doesnt drop back down if its not on the latches

Ahh interesting ... so it could have beeb tightened up on purpose ... will investigate further

This engine has a tilt lock.. all of which work fine ... so im thinking maybe it has been tightened ...

The tilt lock mechanism can often also do with a good clean up wiggle around and lube
