Mariner Yamaha 1980s 15 hp 2 stroke gem advice sort..

Hello all
I’ve just bought an old 1980s mariner 15 hp 2 stroke 684c that has had little use and only then in freashwater so in good condition. I understand it’s practically a Yamaha in terms of outboard parts being put together. I have no experience with Yamaha or mariner/mercury and these old gems but wish to carry out maintenance and checks etc before it hits the water next spring on an equally old 4m Avon sib.

What manual should I use/ buy that covers this engine and also any tips or references online or from experience should Icarry out in order to preserve this tame beast and get the most out of its capabilities.
Thanks there for now.

Hi – I actually have the same question, please. I found an outboard from a private seller, a Mariner 15 M (684C - S - 021649) 2 stroke, 15 HP, made in Japan. I'm assuming that since from '80s, it's made by Yamaha, my research shows that it’s 1982:
- Did you have more info about where to source the replacement parts, please?
- Are you generally happy with the purchase?
- Do you think such an engine is a good investment at about 700/800 GBP? (engine looks quite clean in the pics)
- Do you have any idea how heavy it is? (38 kg?)
Thanks very much!
