Mariner 6 water problem

Hi, I'm new on here, just wondered if anyone has had this problem with a Mariner/Mercury small outboard.

Started to change the impeller today and when I pulled the gearbox down the water tube came with it. After much looking up the tiny shaft with a camera probe I could see the end of the water pipe was still in place but it's fractured on the bend, leaving about 1/2" sticking out. It's well above where the drive shaft enters it's own tube and I cannot see how you can get to it.

Anyone had this happen? If so, what was the solution-the engine itself is fine, 7 years old runs beautifully, pity if a dealer repair cost writes it off

Suspect it’s a power head off job to access the copper pick up tube underneath. Your repair price is because it’s labour intensive, plus if bolts break, etc.

If your spanner handy this could be a nice project. You’ll need the replacement water pick up tube, power head lower tray gasket, etc.

Did this to a mariner 4 (4s)

Lid off, gubbins out of the way, undo power head bolts, remove power head, clean gasket (replace with new) clean water ways and fit new intake pipe.

You definitely need a torque wrench and a manual to torque it back up right.

Fairly straightforward if you have a read through and time
