impellor problem advice needed

Hi I started up my engine today,(60hp mariner) and water didnt come out of the tell tale pipe. I switched off immediately and noticed what I think are small pieces of rubber in the water tank. I tried to push a strimmer wire down the pipe but it only went down about half way. I fear the impellor has shattered. have I done damage. If a piece of the impellor is stuck in the tell tale pipe will it be easy to clear. I was going to try change the impellor myself but I think I will leave it to someone who does this for a living. Any advice welcome, thanks.

The engine should be ok if you did not run it long, the next issue is going to be getting all the little bits of rubber out of the system.

Genlte back flushing might work, but in any case getting the gearbox off and checking the impeller is the next job and take it from there.
