Evinrude starter motor

i have a 25HP from 1987 good runner after i pull start her coz the the starter won`t, it just spins when i turn the key ,so im looking to refurbish coz im not getting a new one
can anyone recomend a place or would it be easy enuff to do myself

Sounds like it's the solenoid if the starter spins but doesn't engage.

Might check connections to that before trying to hunt down a replacement part.

Part shouldn't be impossible to find, I'd think, but I can't offer suggestions on where to look.

Probably only of limited use here if the '87 machine has a solenoid, but the starter on a '72(ish) 25 was one of the ones that used a spiral grove and rotational momentum to fling the starter gear up the shaft (i.e no solenoid). If / when that spiral groove gunks up with grease etc the wee gear won't go anywhere.

Fair enough. Still rebuildable, I assume (as opposed to tossing and replacing)?

Absolutely - just clean out the groove & re - lube it. Maybe replace the return spring if you want a total fefurbishment.

that sounds about right no solinoid, just needs degugnked as i turn with my hand it will climb but under electric i wont
