Engine left/right lock out of balance?

Hi all

This is odd - I've just been tinkering the boat prior to towing it to storage ready for the season.

I noticed that when the wheel is turned to full lock either way, that when the engine is fully starboard it is much further round then when I stear to port.

Very hard to explain in words, I've attached a couple of photos trying to show what I mean!

Is this normal?

Is the engine in the straight ahead position when the wheel is centred between lock-lock? You need to check this with the engine down.

Cheers Dave, it's over in Anglesey now so will have another look when I get over there in 3 weeks.

I did wonder whether it might be the steering wheel that's not central - although I have no ideas how to sort that out if it is the case!

It may have jumped some teeth on the helm, or it may just need adjusting on the ram.

Tiebar from the cable to the engine tiller is longer than necessary for your setup.

Like matt says the issue is with the tie bar either too long or too short or the plate on the front of the motor is wrong length. Assuming the travel is the same when the engine is down? It looks like someone possibly drilled the hole in the edge of the steering arm to try & rectify the issue but going so close to the motor maybe made the steering too heavy.
Assuming you have reasonable lock either way the fact you have more one way than the other isnt realy an issue as you rarely use full lock at much over idle speed

Bloody typical - went over to the boat last week, took it out twice and STILL forgot to check this!! Didn't notice anything untoward though so possibly sorts itself out when trimmed down?!

Doubt it. It's just even as it is, you have enough left & right to control the boat as you wish.
