Big foot g/box pressure test

My pal has water ingress to his mariner 60 Bigfoot gearbox.

Is it easy enough to make up a pressure test fitting? I presume I can just identify the thread and make something up which can attach to a bike pump or air compressor (via a regulator obviously). What pressure do you test them to?

Cheers,

Si

RIBase
Good video here. Stu recommends 10psi and see if pressure holds.

Pressure testing isnt realy hard as you say however imho its value is pretty limited. Gearbox seals usualy consist of two seals at each location one facing each way, one to keep oil in the other to keep water out. A pressure test alone will only test for oil leaks, to test for water ingress you need to do a vacuum test. Its also a static test without the shafts turning so could potentially show a good test static & leak when moving. I've got a test kit to test pressure & vacuum but very rarely use it because of its limited results. My prefered option is just replace both input & output & shift shaft seals & renew the plug washers your then pretty sure you fixed the issue & wont need to revisit it for quite some time. This is the test kit I have which does pressure & vacuum
