Are these two engines the same ?

I am a bit confused after finding almost identical reviews on these two differently named engines. They must be the same ones!

Thanks to the people who have e-mailed me with the answer. I am certainly learning more and have had my eyes opened to what goes on.

To all,

Nissan doesn't produce outboards. Istead they've got contract with Tohatsu to produce the same engines with different logos.

John K,

This is a reply :-

"BTW your post about the engines - Nissan don't market a marine engine in the UK. You've managed to find their US marketing operation. One thing about marine engines is that they crop up with different badges more often than a 1970's British Leyland car. For example, all 2.5 and 3.3/3.5 outboards are made by Tohatsu (whatever the brand), most Mariner and Mercury engines are the same, and some are exactly the same, and some are also Tohatsu's again! Yamaha's vary - some are unique (esp bigger ones), and Yammie do make some Selva engines, but some used to be the same as Johnson's. Almost incestuous! Suzuki seem to make their own. And now Johnson and Evinrude have become separate brands under Bombadier"

Pete (confused from Bromley)

Further to the above I have been informed that Mercury and Mariner do not make any engines under 6hp. ALL their engines are made for them by Tohatsu and painted black.
