I won't have much time to sort anything out over the next few days, as I've got a brand new baby daughter to play with (Florence Louise, born 3 April, 6lb 8). I managed to do the upgrade while Becky was in labour (!) but I'm a bit busy now.
Cheers
John
Frist things first CONGRATS John for the new arrival. all the best for mum and daughter

It may be a good idea to be able to sort/ search the member listings by categories other than username & no. of posts. it would be good to be able to search for members in the same area or by what boat or engine they have?

I'm also with Manos on the avatars, can we please have them!!!!!!!

Congrats on the new arrival!

In my opinion those avatar things are a waste of bloody time. Manos, come on, you of all people post more photos on this forum than anyone else, what's the need for another For those interested in what an Avatar is, take a look at www.boatmadforum.co.uk and form your own opinion. As I say, IMHO they're crap.

Thanks Jono........

I will. I've never been one for taking a back seat, so whilst I'm at it. Why the bloody hell do people keep replying to posts with "quotes" from the previous speaker ? I can appreciate the need for occasional paraphrasing but quoting the whole text in the very next attachment is somewhat over the top .

Jono, no it's not the fact that you're lazy, you're just hitting the wrong reply icon. Look over to the left, there's one there that reads, "Post Reply", try that one.

(note how I'm now being nice based upon your ability to lift heavy weights - I'm only a 7st 6lb weakling scared of being bullied) !

MeMe I agree about the quality of the avatars in various other forums. However, in some forums that I am a member they allow AVATARS provided that they are aproved by the moderator/s. So you can have a respectable AVATAR and I think it looks nice next to your name

Now going to photos issue, an old Chinese saying goes something like this ' a picture says (represents) 1000 words' I strongly believe in this and this is the reason I post photos. I wish more of you did the same.

Oh yea....

I couldn't agree more with regard to your picture comments. I wish more were posted, it brightens up the site and makes it more interesting. Still, avatars will only be abused and if what you say is correct, once it's posted we'll all soon bore of it and want to change it. At this point the poor old moderator will have his time cut ot in keeping on top of it.

RIBase
Thought I read some time ago that our esteemed leader said avatars were a virusy, buggy thing and that's why he wont have them.

search engine not picking ..

Has anyone else noticed that the search engine doesn't pick up all the relevent hits.

e.g enter "breakdown" and http://www.rib.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4209 doesn't show up

there are a number of others I've tried and don't pick up also.

Many many missing , JK is it to do with the new software or am I doing something stupid

Ya, I've noticed it too. I put in a search for a thread that i posted in a while back. I entered the title of the thread and a few keywords that i knew were in it but it didn't show up. I eventually found it by searching for posts made by my username.

It definitely isn't picking everything up.

I'm sure you are quite busy with the rest of the forum, JK, but its just something to be noted.
