SPAM e mail origins

I regulary receive spam e mail that is placed straight into the spam box for deleting but they all appear to have this as a heading in the address( koi8- this is how the mail address starts)
Latest came in subject as *** SPAM ***=?koi8-r?B?5MXSxdf... NOT in address section
Is there a way to establish the origins as I recall a recent e mail from another operator stating they were changing their e mail as they received so many spam mails and believed their address box may have been used.

These all appear in my works e mail not home/private mail. I have good filters and internet security in place. Just trying to reduce the number I seem to get. Cheers Ian

I would imagine you have right clicked and had a look at 'full headers' before opening any of this mail (which might include a Trojan virus)? This will always reveal the senders email address.

Unfortunately spammers use multiple automatically generated email addresses, so although you can see from the headers that the mail is not genuine, it won't tell you that much more of any use.

If your existing software is resident on your pc, you might consider using a web based solution like Postini instead (I think it's a Google product now). My work email has a very high profile on the web and we get almost no spam - just single figures per day, often none...

I use Google Apps Standard Edition for all of my email these days. It's so good that I've almost forgotten what spam looks like.

google apps = white labelled gmail ie you can use your own domain!

www.google.com/a/

if you got access to change your mx records on your domain, you can use google apps.
