An 83-year-old taxi driver has died after his car hit a wall as he took a nine-year-old pupil to school.

There was a case last year in Neath where 2 elderly people crashed their car at high speed in a supermarket car park - they rammed it into a wall under hard acceleration. Very sad and tragic but how would YOU feel if your wife and kids had been in front of the wall???

There have probably been many more that never even make the news. I saw one about 2 years ago where an old lady had smashed through a 4' thick old stone wall and nearly ended up on a busy main road. They reckon she was dead before she hit the wall. That street is right next to a school - it could have been so much worse - the street is a dead end and the wall is where the turning area is - often it's packed with kids!!!

I have to admit that I wasn't too impressed when the story said that she'd received a medical form to fill in at 70 and then nothing since.

I don't think its fair to say 'all old people are dangerous', but I do think there needs to be some system in place (like annual re-tests over 65) to take the incompitent and dangerous elderly off the road.

That said, I'd like to see mandetory re-tests every 5 years for ALL motorists and mandetory annual or biannual eye tests.

I wish somebody could define "old" - is it attitude, aptitude, mentality, capacity??. .. I suppose one good thing about youth.. IT ALL GETS OLD!!!!1

I think "old" is mainly a state of mind. A mates father is 64 and he is OLD - listens to Radio 3 and 4 - drives like an old codger and dresses like one - complete with the hat.

Another bloke I know is 65 and has a stunning 24 yr old girlfriend who has been with him for 7 years - he runs around like a lunatic and listens to rave and house music - she can't keep up with him because she is 24 going on 90 and he's 65 going on 15.

Maybe it's just the old saying "you are only as old as the girl that you....."

So Codders if I understand your maths she was 17 when she went out with him?? what's this then ? a baby snatcher?.. Is this man in fact "our Codders"?.

On another point- I think the music you listen to has nothing to do with being old or young. Radio 3 has sone fantastic jazz programs as well as classical- but I have had heated discussions with a some R3 message board members concerning certain renderings - and I understand where you are comiing from. I suppose we all fall into the trap of generalisations.

Alas it wasn't me.

There is about 40 years between them - everyone said it wouldn't last and yet they are still together almnost 8 years later. The only problems they have is that SHE is too jealous and possesive. Why is a mystery as she is stunning and could get any bloke she wants - she looks like a page 3 model. Even more suprising he isn't even rich - she earns more than him!!!

It's a funny old world......

Its not such a problem lads, most of them cannot get past the "I accept" button, so they look at the pretty picture and wonder why it doesnt move, and after 5 minutes they forget it forever.
After all it would put them out of a job if they cannot tell you the way togo, and they have to draw the line at listening to another female voice (even though said voice does not propose any sexual challange even in a sports car...

Speaking of accepting, I think my lady only ever accepted anything from me once when she said "I DO", Gosh, how things changed after that.
