The diaries of a teacher and minister’s wife who lived on St Kilda to be put online.

The MacLachlans’ time on St Kilda was from Aug 1906 to May 1909.

Whilst there,Peter took the morning school classes from 10am and Alice taught in the afternoon until 4pm.

Their only child Susan Flora MacLachlan was born in 1909 on St Kilda.

There were 22 children who attended their school.

Reckon you could get there. Only down side is you better take provisions for the rest of the winter... which ends in early May!

I've posted this video before, but still gives me a lump in my throat when I watch it. Welcome to Mangersta, Uig, Isle of Lewis.

On a clear day you'll see St Kilda, some 40 miles due west. The only thing stopping you is the Atlantic. It's unpredictable at the best of times and never takes prisoners.

Enjoy.
