Well everything that was stopping us attending on Saturday has also been cancelled, but I don't think we'll be putting the boat in the water instead.

Rick and I are still intending to be out Saturday afternoon, stay overnight somewhere and return to Southampton Sunday sometime.
As it looks like we'll be on our own, not sure where we'll go yet, but if anyone else wants to meet up we're open to suggestions. High Water is roughly midday to 5pm so maybe Newtown Creek, Wooton Creek or the Medina will keep us out of the gusty W / WSW wind that is forecast.
Any takers can call on 07840 975807 to see where we are!

Well - we made it out OK - but a BBQ and picnic on Priory Bay may have been optimistic!
It was a bit breezy and choppy heading into the wind up the Solent. Met Avocet up Newtown Creek and moored up in the bright sunshine!
Had a nice lunch at the Newtown Inn - well worth the 15 minute walk from the quay, and as it was spring tides with high tide in the early afternoon we managed to moor up on the National Trust visitor's quay and still have water under the boats when it came time to leave.
We battled into the F5 - 6 wind down to Poole, and spent the night on the boat (moored next to Sea Safari) before watching the race on Sunday.
We didn't stay long enough to see the results, but the ribs (5 of them) all seemed to be holding their own in the choppy conditions. The sea state at the race briefing was "moderate to rough". It didn't seem that bad in Poole Bay but maybe the boats doing the Marathon found it tougher heading across to Portland Bill!
Anyway - we had fun surfing the swell in the following seas on the way back, and had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.

Hi Guys, I'm new to ribnet so i apologies in advance if this is a stupid question. I've been following your thread and see that trevor g spent the night on the boat but looking at the pictures of the ribs they don't seem to have cabins. How do you go about getting a decent kip on the deck? Do you make some sort of tent on board? either way, seems pretty hardcore. I have a 6 meter ribeye so naturally decided to give it a miss. We went for a stroll down at lepe instead, it looked pretty rough!

The RIB on the left is a Shearwater and has a clever cabin that looks like a big console

Hi Slug
As Hightower said - we have a small cabin - but before we got the Shearwater we had a 6.5m Ballistic. We used to use the full boat cover as a tent (an extending shower pole was used to give a bit of height to the cover) - we could sleep two on the front bow cushions and one between the jockey seats at the back. We are a family of 4, and we just couldn't find a way of squeezing a 4th person on the boat to sleep so we had to go a bit bigger and got the Shearwater.
With the Shearwater we can now sleep 4 - 2 in the cabin and again using the full boat cover sleep one on the bow cushion and one on the back bench seat.
This is the cover - but we've now modified it to have a zip in the side which makes getting in a bit easier when moored up.

Thanks for that Trev/Hightower, great idea putting the zip in the cover. Might be a bit ambitious at the moment as our daughter is only 11months old and i recon we'd be a bit cramped on the old rib eye. just need to persuade Mrs Slug that we need a bigger rib

Let's try again...
August 6-7 Sat LW 12:01 0.2m HW 18:37 3.0m Sun HW 07:04 2.9m LW 13:04 0.4m
Obviously school and summer hols might get in the way but such is life, it misses the GP weekend and the Alderney weekend
Nos - Can you change the dates in the title?

Didn't want to say anything till I knew if I would make it or not. Booked a last min Holiday for a week in Somerset, so I won't be coming.
Have a nice time.
