Ireland to Wales Rib Run for Charity.

Hi,
This is my first post so I thought I should introduce myself, my name is Paul, and im Crew, webmaster and Boathouse manager for the Aberystwyth Lifeboat. An atlantic 75 called Enid Mary. And before you all start saying, hmm that sounds familiar, yes it was us who flipped our 75 a few years back.

This post is to let you know of an event taking place soon.

Last year approximately 16 ribs left Kinsale in Southern Ireland, and made their way to Aberystwyth in Mid Wales, all in aid of the RNLI (and a few beers in the Aberystwyth boat club). They raised a load of money (exact figures to follow), and had a great weekend.

This year its on again
Leaving Kinsale, following the Irish coast around, stopping off at Kimore Quay in Wexford to refuel. Then coming straight across to strumble head (off fishguard) and following the Welsh coast upto Aberystwyth. Where they will be met by the lifeboat and crew.

The date of the trip will be Thursday 21st April for Arrival in Aberystwyth with the return trip on Sunday the 24th, reversing the route.

Last year each boat had to raise a certain amount of cash/sponsorhip to travel and that is how 'Rib Rub' raises money.

I have been thinking of how people can take part, and here are some ideas.

Those of you interested can go over to Ireland, and do the trip too.

Or we have been thinking of some alternatives, and ideally we just want to do one of these, so if anyone is interested let me know.

Launching at Fishguard, meeting the boats off strumble head and heading up to Aberystwyth with them, then going back on the sunday.

Launching in Aberystwyth, and going down to meet the boats off strumble, and coming back with them.

Launching to the north of Wales, and aiming to hit Aberystwyth at the same time as the other runners. Maybe making it a similar distance?

These are just some ideas in the ways people who are interested can take part, of course whatever you do raising funds is the main aim.

I will get some more info together on money raised and so forth for you.

Hope some of you are keen and look forward to meeting you.

Paul

Hahaha. T. M. I.

Very practical idea for keeping your hands warm from Kinsale to Aber.

Good luck with the planning all of you ...and for a worthy cause

Just a reminder about this great rib run

There are about 16 boats taking part so far, and we are keen to have more

If you are interested in doing some all or part of the trip, or just coming to Aber with your rib, to see them off on the Sunday. Let me know and I can send you details about accomodation etc.

Currently it still looks like its going ahead weather wise, will update regarding the weather nearer the time.

Yep, my boss left work this early this evening to head down to Kinsale, to say I'm jealous would be an understatement!! He'll be the guy getting sick over the side of the red diesel 8m Excalibur Force 4/5 winds are forecast so it should be a bit of craic!!

Good luck to all, take plenty of pics!! Fuel tank capacity has stoppped me from making the trip this year but plans to rectify that are already in progress for next yrs trip!!

We Are Back !!

Sore , but intact

We had a magic weekend in Wales.....many many thanks to the RNLI boys in Aber. They know how to party
I'll try and get a few pics up this evening, i've got to go now and earn a few bob to pay the bar bill.

Yes , we did have a MOB, fortunately all the safety systems we had in place worked and he was recovered rapidly. Dislocated his shoulder on the way out, went to hospital, put it back in, then jumped on a plane to Wales..... thats commitment
