The 6500 is way to small small for that sort of stuff. You need the 7000 series or if you can find one a 9000 series which are two speed with a gearbox would be interesting. No idea on the latest stuff though it's all foreign now.

Now were do you think you are going to find 30lb rays

Quick thought, a Policansky have a good reputation and would do the job as a boat reel. I have the 4b knocking around somewhere. There is one on e bay at the moment. Mine is right handed but I use left handed turning clockwise and the line going on the bottom of the spool rather than the more normal top of the spool.

Thanks for the info, I've been looking at the Abu 7000 reels and also their rods they do have some combo deals which I have been looking at too
