where in scotland is a good place to look

Can any body recomend a good place to view RIBS on the west coast of scotland?. Every boat i look at appears to be on the south coast. PS is it best to look at a basic new boat or a second hand one with all the extras?ie a new Assualt or a second hand XS or similar. Then in the future add the extras.

Depends what you want to use it for (re: Assault v's XS etc).

I don't think there are any "great" places to look up here. Some of the yacht chandlers/brokers will have some of the smaller more mainstream stuff (e.g. I think Bosun's locker at S. Queensferry are Zodiac Dealers and FYM in Grangemouth are Northcraft and Valiant dealers). There is a "rib place" at Rosneath - not sure what their stock is like. There is a place nr Crinan which always seems to have an interesting selection outside as I pass.

Negative!

As I recall Small place on the left hand side of the road heading towards Crinan, usually seems to have 3 or 4 ribs their which I assume are all for sale... I'll see if Mr Google can provide more info...

I think this is the place: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&so...12,148.66,,0,5 although usually busier when I pass?

I have no idea how good the ribs are but they might be worth a look.

You beat me to it!

Also FYM in the depths of Grangemouth.

Google "rib sales scotland" - I found
Rosneath
http://www.yachtworld.com/ribsheduk/ribsheduk_0.html
And these guys up by the fruitmarket in Glasgow
www.prosser-marine.com/
Can't comment on either of their price or service.

There's also Ardoran Marine up by Oban usually has a couple of Ribs in stock second hand. They are mainly Suz / Honda Dealers, but also act as brokers. They have a selection of small Suzmar dinghies, so might be worth giving them a call?

Also Euroyachts at Largs Marina I think have a small selection? (A stroll round the dry storage might also give you a view, but maybe find a ribnetter who has a boat there first so you don't end up talking to Mr Plod......)

As to new basic vs secondhand with toys, I guess that depends on a lot of things - you'll get warranty with a new one, but if you are on a budget, a good S/H may be the better option, especially if you want / need some toys. If you get the S/H one off a dealer you may get a limited waranty.
