Moved up to a Pacific 22, need help?

Hi guys,
Well after much debate and searching i finally found my next boat. Pacific 22 with 140hp mermaid, usual kit, but recent new tubes, however there is no transom plate with hull number and year etc.

I know where it should be, above the stern drive, but mine has a large stainless oblong plate fastened in its place..( see photo, note old tubes have now been replaced with mk2 versions)

Does any Pacific owners know of other ways to find out its year? Or who previously owned it, apparently it came from the Isle of lewis??
Cant be that many halmatics out there? Can they??
Any help would be grateful..

On my PAC there is the boat number embossed into the consol on the lip where it is screwed to the deck, mine has also got the same number embossed into the cover at the back of the consol.

Had a look at mine today, the number on the consol is directly below the fuel filler and on the cover behind the consol it's stbd side to the rear, my numbers are a mirror image.

Looks like the transom has been built-up on yours and the large stainless plate has been used as re-inforcement.
Wasn`t this boat on Findafishingboat.com? Have fun, they`re great bits of kit.

It may also me marked on the fuel tank but you may need a mirror and torch to read it.

About a tonne and a half, and half the running costs using that red stuff instead of petrol. Oh and suprisingly nibble with a slow speed turning circle almost in their own length. Parking a doddle

steering ram on the 100series stern drive unit???

Idealy i would like an exploded view of the internal parts??, mine has a leak on one side
that i would like to cure, apparently it has only just been done with a kit supplied by lancing last month?.

I removed the cylinder off the leg and unscrewed both end caps, slid out the main shaft
all looks well inside, but i would like to check the location of the thin plastic split rings which
locate next to the O rings??, if youve had one apart then maybe you know what im on about...

Another £70 quid lighter and Lancing are sending me another seal kit, i asked for a diagram also, but they politely refused to send me even a sketch of the internals, saying for me to send it to them, £90 in 2hrs labour and £70 for the seal kit.
I had it removed, stripped and re-fitted to the leg in less than an hour!!!..

Well thanks to everyone who tried to help me find my hull number..

I searched all over the boat. the only numbers i could find were on the steel lifting points on the deck..

Console, nothing, fuel tank, nothing..

The only numbers i can find were engine numbers, so i called mermaid, very helpful people i thought.

Build card dated 1984, Dover engine rated 140hp, but thats all i know..

The split rings go on the outside of the O rings.

Take the diesel lump out and replace with a couple of big outboards and that'll be a great boat

I have found numbers on mine on the engine side panellsfrom memory its under the soundproofing.Each engine box is individual to each boat.however that doesnt mean yours are original and havent been swopped.

Ok, i take the banter about ditching the diesel and throwing a ton more money on two outboards...Never..How else would i smoke my line caught fish!!!.

So my leaking steering ram is now sorted, just needs another system bleed as its still a little notchy. Why are they so hard to do??.

Another question, after having her on the water i find she steers great to port and not so great to starboard ( like really heavy on the helm), i guess this is due to prop rotation torque??. Also at WOT she lists a little to starboard?? is this normal???.. trim tab on the leg adjusted to the left helped, but im really not certain on this one??.

At WOT engine just about hits 2450rpm, not sure what speed, but it seemed quite a while to get up on the plane with just two people aboard, with leg trimmed in or out.
, checked all hoses, cables etc. Even had a look at the fuel screw on the top of the pump.
It was screwed all the way out???
However the max speed and idle screws are still sealed

Prop fitted is a Lancing ( brand new)standard Stern drive prop 17" but not sure on the pitch, its very thick blades though. I do have a Michigan genuine prop as a spare, but im not sure what the pitch is on it either part number reads 032109 on the spline hub and 753R on the casting between the blades? but its blades are much thinner profile, searched the net for info but found nothing.

Could it be a prop issue thats losing rpms im not sure? Having read all the previous posts on pacific props im more confused than ever. It just feels like the prop is too big for the engine.
Basically any advice on any of the above questions would be very helpful me, i hate being a newbie to this type of boat..
