What a fantastic product demonstration!

Thanks for taking the effort - I reckon that the last few shelf-fulls of this will now be shifted to RIBers stocking up for their autumn cruises.

Have you considered replying to the Email from Nestle with a URL to this thread? It might just get them thinking about how to market the product.

Some inside info. on the product as I work for the company that manufactures and assembles the can. Its an excellent product, but be aware that the increase in temperature is fixed, so it'll be dissapointing if you've left it outside on a cold day. Try to keep it at a reasonable temperature before you activate it then you'll get a good hot beverage.

What they said is as I understand it. The marketing was extended to the "Central" TV region which is a big area but when you're the size of Nestle ! The fact that people were able to get them outside the region shows how popular they were with the retailers. However that caused them a problem because you can't analyse the data very well if people are wandering off and selling them outside the test region.

I'm hopeful they'll be back. The potential is great (Hot Chocolate, Lemsip etc.) but for the moment you need to stock up.

3 weeks or so back on a really raw cold day we cracked open a couple of cans of heat in the can coffee. To say it was lukewarm would be an exagerration!! At that temperature it aint nice at all!
We had the flasks out with us but it was a big course and we thought that these would provide a bit more in the way of a warm drink-Wrong!
Letter of complaint to Nescafe - below is the relevant part of reply. The motto is Hot when you want - as long as its not a cold day! Funny that, I like a cold drink on a warm day and a hot one iin winter. So don't throw the flasks way


“Thank you for your recent letter concerning Nescafe Hot When You Want.
……………………..The can is designed to heat up the contents to around 40 degrees c higher than the initial remperature of the can however, this may vary by a few degrees either way. For instance, if the can is activated at average room temperature of around 20 degrees C the contents of the can will heat up until it reaches 60 degrees C. If the can starts at a hotter temperature – for example if left out in the sun – the coffee will reach a higher temperature.
Although the can and the coffee may feel hot, it will be no hotter than a coffee from a vending machine (typically around 75-80 degrees C). For best results the can should be stored indoors at room temperature. If the can is stored in a refrigerator or any other relatively cold environment (i.e. around 4 degrees C) the can will heat up only to 44 degrees C. for this reason we do not recommend that the product should be refrigerated.”
Thinking back the RiB was like a fridge that day! Lot nicer on today's course -an absolute overcoat warmer, flat calm sea, bit of sunshine

My point as well. This is all just marketing and consumerism. If you know you are heading down to the rib then get the flask and make your own coffee...and it wont cost £1.35 a cup. Jeez now I sound like my dad.

I guess the weather was quit ruff do you think the dog might have come from a shiprex somewhere

Just a thought.......
but if the can heats up to 40 over "ambient" temperature, does this mean that if we can heat the outside (and possibly the contents as well) to a higher temperature than it naturally is, then activate the chemicals, will it then heat hotter.........if you see what I mean?
For example, if one were to place some cans next to a hot engine for a few minutes, then activate the chemicals, would this help?

Buy a Stainless flask from compass for £9.99 with 2 free cups. They are unbreakable and keep your coffe hot for over 24 hours. Much cheaper than Nescafe useless drinks.

ICE COFFEE with milk and suggar. in the SUMMER

If not Try it!!

1/2 spoon/s of nescafe original (ONLY!!), 1 spoon of suggar, shake it well in a shaker with a little bit of cold water until it froths, add more cold water to fill glass, add evaporated milk (NOT ORDINARY MILK) to change colour, add ice, add straw

DRINK IT


PS Without milk same follow the same instructions as above and add a blob of vanilla ice cream or kalhua or baylis

Flask of coffee is the best idear as they are very chep. It can't hurt to keep a few cans in the boat though. They do get hot if the are alowed to heat up out of the wind. In the seat ect. At 2 am a hot drink is nice and to be honest how good the coffee is on a rib in the midle of the night does not bother me. It just has to be hot. Nice to have the emmergency cans in the boat.
