Hats ?

Ive lost two hats in two trips - the round the IOW trip left me with a sunburnt bald patch. (Im now solar powered)

What do you guys use as a hat that dosent fly off ? Both baseball caps failed. I popped into a chandlery shop and had a look but other than an expensive Tilly hat with string under the chin, I only saw more expensive baseball hats.

Yup, a Gecko would be like wearing a microwave oven

Perhaps a popper stud on top of my bald patch would work.

This has been recommended before and seems a good alternative to Tilleys.

I love my Tilley, but it's crap for boating. Anything with a brim will be the same; at 30 knots the brim blows up and looks daft, or the whole lot comes off. Even if it's clipped to your collar with para cord it's not much good to you flapping around like that. Even though my head isn't 'showing through' yet I still sometimes find my scalp is burnt after a sunny day on the water so I usually wear my Buff

I have done the Tilley and now wear the Pategonia. It stays on and the front of the rim is slightly reinforced to reduce the likelihood of it raising up at 30kts.

I use one of these from sports direct - Karrimor hunter mens hat.

Search Results

It stayed on during the RIOW and I've even dived to 40m with it on in the past when I got sun burnt floating on the surface waiting for boat pick up!

There so cheap you can buy 3 and it doesn't matter if you kill them (although I'm still on the first one).

Cheers
Rob
