A great guy .

I'd heard his name before - didn't realise what he was/did.

Quite a remarkable story, a little sad, but he's doing what he wants to do....

Like Willk I had heard of him but unaware of what he did and his lifestyle. Quite humbling really I wish I had his strength to do as he has done, although it is a lonely life alright just now but what happens when he becomes unable to fullfill his dream.
Hope he has many years doing what he loves

Frank Dunster - Lifetime Award

He has been on Hayling island for a long while beating rescue crews on a regular basis.

Remarkable chap and very intriguing lifestyle choice. Shame it was only 8 mins long.

I have known Frank for many years and he is an absolute Gentleman. He lives aboard his RIB out of choice and has many offers of free accommodation all of which he turns down. If you ever bump into him, say Hi, he will always pass the time of day with you Alan P

Great film, again shame it was so short.

Living on a small RIB for 20 years takes some doing.

V interesting video. Quite incredible what he's done. Though it's sad in a way, humans are social by nature and only withdraw through negative experiences, as he openly admits to some degree. He must now gain his own self acknowledgement/worth through intense moments of gratitude from those rescued. Arguably a more noble way to gain recognition than earning money and providing for a family.

I've lived in the Solent area all my life and have never heard of Frank Dunster. What a lovely Video, thanks for posting it Lurcher. Yes it makes me feel sad in a way, but it also lifts me too. This guy has had a troubled past, but at least he's found something he obviously loves to do in helping others.

What a lovely story!

Good video he appears to be a humble and very interesting chap. Like others have said, it is a shame it's so short.

Ahh, right! Well done him for rescuing them then. Shame he didn't manage to perswade them in keeping with it, as it was soon after their maiden voyage they decided to give it all up.

Thanks to him they could make that decision.

I just hope he's looked after when he gives it up! No home or finances, he will struggle financially, not to mention psychologically.

GOOD LUCK TO HIM!!.. Liveing life his way,AND helping a few people on the way.
Nice video, and I for one would like to see a proper job done of telling his story. Not many real characters around these days bucking the system.I'm Sure it would be alot better than most of the ''Celebratty'' drivvel, and Cr*pp so prevailant on the Box.
By the way, we've got a guy on the Bristol Channel (nr Bossington) who's lived in a tent on the Beach for over 20yrs.
Easy to spot from the Sea, if your ever down that way,but a different story from the Landward.
By all accounts he's pretty bloody happy too!

Frank

As Willk said he pulled in Knot Yet and typically refused any money , we have tried to persuade him to be a bit more business like in his operations.
The Sabre engine in the rib threw a rod a year ago and the rebuild was a huge amount but was collected by club members in a matter of weeks , there was a surplus which is to be used for ongoing maintenance.
He has collected us a few times and got one of my sons out of BIG trouble on the Chi Bar one day . The simple way of paying him is to wait until he has left the rib then slip a few notes under the dash !
He has a huge number of friends at the sailing club and he is well looked after.

I am privileged to count Frank as a friend and In reply to the "lonely" comments, I think it is fair to say that he is a loner by choice, rather than lonely. He is surrounded by people who care a lot for him.
He did 3 rescues xmas day! If you feel inclined to make a donation to Hayling Rescues coffers, PM me for details.

We are hoping that one of the TV channels will pick up on this excellent video and spread the word. In an ideal world, it would be great if they commissioned the same students to do a full blown documentary.
If you are on Facebook there is a page on there " Friends of Hayling Rescue", we try to keep it updated when we can.
