Fixed VHF

Hi, I have an old Sinead RT1200 fixed vhf mounted on the console of my rib. The rib spent many years uncovered and the vhf unit is dead. I was going to remove it but it will leave a gaping hole in the dash and I can’t think of anything to replace it with only another vhf.
Can anyone recommend a basic/cheap unit that will last outdoors. The boat is left covered these days but can often be left uncovered for a week.

I'd be putting in an Icom m411 or similier.

Others will be suggesting other units, and so long as it's a waterproof unit designed for a rib, rather then a yacht, then it'll do what you need.

+1

Used Icom fixed units and handhelds for many years and had no issues

I have been using Standard Horizon for decades and rarely had a problem.

Have recently removed stuff from my console and made up plates to cover the holes for now so like for like size is not always an issue.

Thanks folks, I might need to do some fibreglassing to fill in the hole. Another option is to move the Raymarine Ray54e from my other boat. Must check the specs to see what it’s IP rating is.

SH are ideal 3 yr waterproof warranty and start at £140ish
https://www.cactusnav.com/standard-h...e-p-28952.html
Quote:
3-Year Waterproof Warranty

If your Eclipse Series radio fails for any reason (including water damage) during normal use for the first 3 years of ownership, STANDARD HORIZON will repair or replace it free, without hassles or charges. If it fails for anytime thereafter in normal use, for as long as the original purchaser owns the radio, STANDARD Horizon's Lifetime Flat Rate and Customer Loyalty Service Programs will cover it.
Check that applies in Ireland

DSC is great but needs an MMSI to activate (not sure who issues hem in Ireland)

Ive got a Standard Horizon GX1700E on my RIB, built in GPS which backs up my Raymarine GPS. Really pleased with it. Not flush mounted but on top of my console, think its been replaced with the GX1800E. MMSI number in Ireland, you have to have an Irish issued VHF licence, i had a UK one, but they wont issue you an Irish MMSI unless you have the Irish VHF ticket, so i had to do the course when i moved over here. The MMSI number is issued by the Irish DTTAS. https://www.gov.ie/en/service/1d6ea4-maritime-radio/

I've got an Icom 421 here if you need a cheap reliable unit.

I just paid AUD $169 for the Standard Horizon GX1300 VHF. Hoping it goes well as it's quite the bargain.
